Could your carpet have mold?

Monday, March 7th, 2011

Sticking to a regular residential carpet cleaning schedule is important to maintain your carpet’s integrity and your family’s health. A case in point is the snowy weather during February. Children tracking in snow and dirt from their sledding excursions, salt melt products stuck in boot treads and pet paw prints all add up to stress on your carpet and the possibility of permanent stains.

Left unattended, your carpet takes a beating and delicate fibers begin to break down. Traffic areas become more noticeable and deeper and dried salt crushes into the carpet. If let unattended, salt products can strip carpets of their chemical bonding compounds and wood floors of the urethane coating.

Another very important issue is mold. Carpets draw melting snow down to the padding, where without air drying, mold begins to form. Once you have a mold problem, it’s difficult and expensive to eradicate. A good cleaning will address all of these situations and make your carpet even more able to help combat allergens.

Also, professionally cleaning your carpet this time of year means that with lower humidity levels, your carpet will dry quicker with no oppressive July humidity to slow down the process.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends routine carpet cleaning every 6-12 months and every 3-6 months if you have young children and pets. Scheduling a cleaning is a smart way to extend the life of your carpet. Call us at 636.978.5878 for an estimate.

Spring Cleaning

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

It is once again that time of the year when we come out of our hibernation and into the sunlight. Spring is in the air, and it is time to begin the tumultuous task of cleaning your home from top to bottom. Everything should be vacuumed out, cleared out, dusted, washed, waxed, dried, and ready for the rest of the year. That sounds like an awful lot of work to be done. Why put all of the strain on yourself to complete the project? Enlist the help of Donley Services to get the spring cleaning taken care of.

There is no need to be overwhelmed by your annual Spring Cleaning to do list. Start by writing down your goals of where and what you want to clean. Then break the list down further with the tasks assigned to each area. If you have helpers provide each one with a specific task that they can be in charge of for each room.  Tasks such as:  Vacuuming, Dusting, Washing, etc. The tricky part is assigning these tasks to individuals who may or may not want to spend their weekend cleaning. A good way to avoid potential issues is to have each person decide what task they will focus on.  That way the person has something they can feel proud of once the job is completed. Reward good behavior, and provide feedback for those individuals who are struggling.

A great way to avoid any potential issues is to hire Donley Services to handle all of the spring cleaning for you. We will gladly sit down with you to find out exactly what tasks you want completed, and when would be the best time to start the project. Contact our offices for more information on the free consultation. We welcome any thought or suggestions in our Comments section.
